“A Place for Everything and Everything in its Place”

What is coming up for me in the next few weeks is that I am going to be finding places for everything and then telling my husband where those places are.  I will be trying to be disciplined with my husband to keep things in the places I have chosen for them after they are used.  This will be a challenge for me because decisiveness is something that I have not been really good at.  I think decisiveness has been weak for me because I have never really practiced good stewardship over what I own, and I am humbled to say this.  However, Praise the Lord, I have recently taken ownership and responsibility as co-owner of my husband’s and my house to sweep and clean the screened in area and steps and part of the basement only recently.
My husband mentioned this desire for orderliness last night, and I talked to him on the phone today and told him I was going to work on it.  I asked him to pray for me, and he suggested to me that I do one thing a week.  So here’s what I decided to do.  I’m going to make it really simple.  I’m going to divide my house into 9 sections.  Walls are doing the main dividing for me, as most sections are a bedroom or bathroom or kitchen.  I will do one section a week.  The sections are: (1) the guest bedroom, (2) the master bedroom, (3) the nursery, (4) the kitchen, (5) the office area, (6) the area by the sliding glass door, (7) the bathroom, (8) the screened in porch, and (9) the basement.  I’m going to start the week for this on a Wednesday, and it will go to the next Tuesday.  I think switching the section I work on in the middle of the week will help not put too much emphasis on the chore, yet the section will still be switching every seven days.
I am not too concerned with accomplishing the consistent discipline when all the “placing things” is done because, Praise the Lord, for about a week now, I have been having a discipline to tidy the bathroom every morning except Sundays!  I think this habit of discipline can be applied to my days when this “placing project” is done!
Something I have to consider is that I have a baby due in 6 weeks.  I do not know how long it will take to adapt to the new baby, but I hope it will not take long!  I might be wanting to keep going with the placing project, and I have to be aware and willing to be flexible if it should so be needed.
I’m going to work on the kitchen this week, because I have grocery list planning to do as I have a trip planned to the grocery store tomorrow.  Today happens to be a Wednesday so off I go.

  2. Each of our husbands has different things that are important to him, and I have been wanting to make a list of 5-10 things that are part of our life, and ask Reuben to put the list in the order of priority to him. Things like meals on time, a clean, organized house, regularly putting Patrick to bed early enough so I can go to bed when Reuben does, mowing the lawn, getting up in the morning when he does, etc. This blog entry inspired me to do it, instead of just thinking about it!
